A tribute to Autumn
We are blessed with an abudance of fruits on the trees, glorious weather, another moment in which to feel . I am not religious, but I am spiritual. I am grateful for life.
On to "Lessons"
The lesson I learned this month - - elation preceeds devastation. I am not saying to not let your guard down, but just to keep this fact in mind. It does not spoil the elation, but helps define it. A lesson I refuse to accept is the overlooking of misspellings - especially by teachers. I want to scream when the notes are "comming" home with such atrocities.
On a similar note, there is a church, on the main highway adjacent to my hometown, which posts two new messages each week. I saw the guy putting the message up just yesterday and I wanted to pull over and give him a piece of my mind. As usual I was in a hurry and so did not stop. The problem: punctuation AND spelling. On this huge, highly visible sign, they spelled turbulent as "turbulant." But bigger than that, they slaughter every 'apostrophe s' rule in the book. "...THE LORDS ARRIVAL..." (didn't use an apostrophe s) and "...LOVE DEFINE'S ALL THINGS..." (why? why? why put in the apostrophe?) It is difficult to teach the fine points of grammar, spelling and punctuation to our children, but to post such manglings in huge capital black and white letters each and every week is torturous. Why don't I stop in and say something? Why don't I send a letter? Why don't I start a petition? I think about it. That does nothing. SO I WRITE THIS BLOG.
